Simple, Transparent Bookkeeping Pricing
Most bookkeeping firms do not publish pricing. The result is a call, a pitch, and a number that surprises you. J.P Bookkeeping works differently: the reference ranges below give you a realistic starting point, and the free consultation produces a specific quote before any work begins, so there are no surprises.
Monthly Bookkeeping
$150 to $500 per month
Monthly bookkeeping covers the ongoing work of keeping your books current: transaction categorization, bank and credit card reconciliation, monthly financial statements, and a plain-language summary of what the numbers show.
Most small businesses with straightforward finances and moderate transaction volumes land in the $150 to $300 range. Businesses with higher transaction volumes, more accounts, or added services such as payroll coordination or job costing for contractors typically fall in the $300 to $500 range.
What affects the monthly price:
- Transaction volume (the number of transactions processed per month)
- Number of bank accounts and credit card accounts
- Business type (contractors with job costing have more complexity than a single-owner service business)
- Whether payroll coordination is included
- Current state of the books (clean books are faster to maintain than ones that have been partially neglected)
Catch-Up Bookkeeping
Reference ranges based on typical transaction volumes for small businesses:
- 1 to 3 months behind: starting around $300 to $500
- 4 to 6 months behind: starting around $500 to $1,500
- 7 to 12 months behind: starting around $1,500 to $3,500
- Multiple years behind: quoted after the free consultation based on the full scope
Catch-up pricing is driven by the number of months to be covered and the volume and completeness of the source records. A business with very high transaction volume or very incomplete records may fall outside these ranges. The free consultation produces a specific estimate, not a range.
QuickBooks Setup and Configuration
QuickBooks setup pricing depends on the scope of the project, which varies by business complexity, whether a new file is being built from scratch or an existing file is being restructured, and whether training is included.
Setup scope is assessed at the free consultation, where the work involved becomes clear before any commitment is made. If you are unsure whether you need a full setup or just a cleanup, the consultation is the right starting point.
A Note on These Ranges
These are reference ranges based on typical market pricing for small business bookkeeping. Your exact quote comes from a free consultation, where we assess your books, transaction volume, and backlog before any work begins. The consultation is free and carries no obligation to hire.
No work starts and no invoice is issued until you have an exact cost and have agreed to move forward.
What Affects the Price
The factors below determine where your engagement falls within any given range:
- Transaction volume: More transactions per month means more time categorizing and reconciling.
- Number of accounts: Each bank account, credit card, and loan account requires separate reconciliation.
- Catch-up backlog: More months behind, and more transactions per month in that backlog, means a larger catch-up engagement.
- Business type: Contractors with job costing, multiple active projects, or certified payroll records involve more setup and ongoing complexity than a single-owner service business.
- Record completeness: Complete bank statements and organized receipts shorten the engagement. Missing records require reconstruction work that adds time.
